A 1,250-word history paper at 250 words per double-spaced page is about five pages. Confirm the word count before you convert to pages.

Meta description

A search snippet is usually 140–160 characters. Switch to the character counter if you are targeting a hard character limit.

How to use it

Limits

  • This is a plain-text counter, not a Microsoft Word or Google Docs replica.
  • Images, footnotes, and comments inside a .docx file are not counted unless you paste that text.

Questions

How does DocumentMage count words?

Words are sequences of letters or numbers separated by whitespace. Hyphenated compounds such as “well-known” count as one word. Extra spaces do not inflate the count.

Is this the same as Microsoft Word?

It is close for plain text. Word processors may count text boxes, headers, footnotes, or hidden characters differently. Use this tool for drafts you can paste as text.

Does my writing leave my computer?

The counter runs in your browser. DocumentMage does not upload the text you paste into this tool.
